Designing a reception area with a modern style, can seem like an intimidating task.  Especially since this area is the first thing your customers and clients see.  Because of this, it is important to make a good first impression.  Keep the following tips in mind when you are in the process of planning your reception area.

Focal Modern Reception Desk

The centerpiece of your reception area should be a beautiful and unique receptionist desk, as it is likely the first thing your clients will notice.  Make sure the design you choose is suitable for your business.  It is also important to choose a large enough desk for your employees to comfortably work at, but is still the appropriate size for your office space.

There are many modern reception desk design shapes such as rectangular, circular, or semi-circular.  Depending on your needs, reception desks can be made larger to accommodate multiple receptionists and guests at the same time.

If you have certain size restrictions, or if you have a unique space to work with, it may be best to  go with a customizable reception desk.  That way you are able to make it to your exact specifications, and do not have to settle for a standard reception desk that won't work perfectly within your space.

Reception Desk Accessories

There are also many accessories that you are able to add to your desk.  Add-ons such as a pedestal or storage cabinet, is a good solution for additional storage needs.

You are also able to add options such as a return or a bridge to your reception desk.  If your receptionist requires more workspace, this would be a good option to consider.  Returns are also able to used for ADA requirements.  Please keep in mind that ADA Requirements are based upon local governances.  It is best to check local legislation to find out what the regulations are in your area before ordering your desk.

Reception desk counters are typically made with wood or glass.  Glass tends to be more durable,  although a wood veneer finish can have a very refined look.

Tips for choosing a reception desk that works for you

When trying to select a receptionist desk for your space, it may seem overwhelming at first.  There are many things to consider such as style, size, and functionality.  However, the process doesn't have to be completely stressful.  Here are a few tips to help narrow down what to look for in your reception desk:

Style & Design

Depending on your needs, as well as what type of business you have, will depend on what style you want to focus on.   The design you're looking for may be more of a modern reception desk or something that is transitional or traditional.  For example a conservative office may want to have something that has more of a traditional feel or shape.  However if you're a high tech company, you may want a more contemporary or forward thinking approach.  This all depends on your business concept, and what type of environment you are trying to convey.

It is important to consider and measure your reception room before you purchase your desk.  Purchasing a desk that is too large for your space will make your room look smaller than it is, and will diminish the usable space for your seating area and guests.  If you choose a reception desk that is too small, you may not allocate the necessary space for your receptionist to work.  Also, keep in mind how many receptionists will be working at the desk at one time.  It is essential to make sure that the desk size you select will accommodate all of your staff comfortably.

Finally, while it is important that the style and size of your desk fits your vision and needs, functionality also plays a vital role.  The desk you select must provide enough workspace for your employees.  This includes the space to file, store, as well as having the appropriate space for electronics and office supplies.  Having the correct tools and storage will ensure a pleasant and stress free work environment for your staff.  It will also keep the area from being in disarray or appearing messy.  If needed, always consider adding additional storage such as a pedestal.

Imagine yourself being a new visitor in an office for the first time.  What impression do you have of the reception area?  Is it clean and welcoming, or is it outdated and confined?  Creating a first impression with new clients is a very important step in promoting your business, and to create a positive work environment for your employees.  Your reception area is your first point of contact with your customers.  We've all heard the saying that first impressions last, and this is all too true when it comes to your reception area. Here are important things to consider when you are in the early stages of designing and planning:

Having a reception desk that stands out,  as well ashaving something that people cannot help but notice, will help promotethe inviting atmosphere of your reception area.   Keep in mind that your clients will approach this unique furniture piecewhen they first arrive into your reception area, and when they have questions about your business and the services you offer.  Making sure to choose a desk that stands out from any of your typical reception desks, will ensure an appealing, attractive and welcoming  area for your guests and clients to walk into.

Ask anyone, and I'm sure waiting is not at the top of their list as their favorite thing to do.   That is why you should make sure to provide entertainment for your clients while they are waiting.  This could include a television, free Wi-Fi, or something as simple as a magazine or book.  Refreshments such as water, coffee, or tea are also a nice touch.  This will help ease restlessness and anxiety, and make your guests feel more comfortable and at home.

Every company has an identity that is unique and exclusive only to them.  Why not make that company culture stand out to your new clients and visitors?  Take for example what companies like Google and Skype did in these entrance photos collected by Office Snapshots.

These are just a few introductory tips to help create a reception area that will make a good first impression.  However you decide to design your reception area;make sure that it fits the needs of your clients, employees, and is in line with your company culture.
